Dr. Leah Hickson
Dr. Leah Hickson has worked in different capacities in the dental field since 1990 and graduated from Creighton University School of Dentistry in 2007. Timberhill Dental welcomed Dr. Hickson in June 2019 and is excited to have her add dental services such as LANAP Laser Periodontal Therapy to the practice. Native to Oregon,Dr. Hickson grew up in Eugene and lives with her husband (an OSU alum) and their two Labradors. She enjoys getting outside, traveling, hiking, camping, fishing and biking.
According to Dr. Hickson,“Comprehensive dental care means considering the health of the whole mouth rather than treating individual teeth when they have a problem”. She looks forward to giving Timberhill Dental patients complete information about their oral health status and helping them choose the treatment option that works best for them.
Education & Certifications
Dr. Black continues to attend advanced continuing education courses concentrating on cosmetic dentistry, conscious sedation, metal-free restorations, and is one of 300 select CEREC Doctor Mentors nationwide who actively provide advanced level training to the CEREC dental community.
Yet, despite his extensive focus on clinical dentistry, Dr. Black takes the time to get to know each and every patient one on one.
The Candy Dentist
In the Corvallis area, Dr. Black is affectionately known as the “Candy Dentist” because of his innovative efforts to reduce tooth decay. In 2015, his annual Halloween “Dollars-Not-Decay” buyback campaign collected 973 pounds of candy from community children who were eager to make the exchange for freshly minted dollar bills. A matching dollar donation was then made to a local charity. Since starting this program, Dr. Black has collected over 10,000 pounds of candy and has donated more than $11,000 to local charities.
Over the years, Dr. Black has also sponsored and donated materials for several tooth whitening charity events collecting over $65,000 for patients in need of medical care, high school sports teams and other local non-profits. Dr. Black also enjoys his annual mouthguard days for the high school football teams.
All work and no play is not this doctor’s style. In addition to hosting an annual “Timberhill Dental Patient Appreciation Swim Party”, Dr. Black enjoys performing with his family band, playing indoor soccer, and has run a marathon and several half marathons.
